CAVE-GIRL BIFRONSI: The Forty-Sixth Spirit is called Bifrons, Bifrous, Bifrovs or Bifronsi. She is a Great Countess and appears initially as a huge Siberian Mammoth from out of the depths of the Earth, which shakes at her approach. But after the command of the Exorcist she assumes the shape of a beautiful young woman dressed revealingly in animal skins and furs riding the back of a Mammoth. Her office is to make one knowledgeable in the Star lore of the ancients and to teach the sacred Geometry of Earth alignments and Sacred Sites of Power Places as well as many another arcane art and science such as to Shape-Shift into Animal forms and that of Trance Induction for she is a powerful Shaman. When Bifronsi enters the Dreams of her Master she will take him into her Elder-World prior to the Great-Flood brought about by the melting Ice Sheets of the Last-Ice-Age where Bifronsi will then make passionate love to him whereupon she may shift into numerous hybrid animal forms while doing so in her ecstasy. She teaches the sacred virtue of Stones, Woods and of Hallucinogenic healing Herbs to also induce visions of the age of the Giants being the time of the Great-Mammals long ago when the Ice flows eventually encroached over the Earth whose peoples knew of an Elder Civilisation. She has the habit of changing the places where dead bodies of animals to lie so as to put them in another place covered in Red-Ochre as well as also lighting seeming candles upon graves of the dead in order to protect them. She has under her command 60 Legions of Spirits like unto her self all Feminine. MAMMOTH MOTHER OF THE ANCESTRAL UNDERWORLDIn an area just West of Lake Baikal in Siberia one can find a most interesting locale called Mal'ta, which is an Archaeological treasure trove; the Mal’ta Archaeological site dates back to the Upper Paleolithic, which is comprised of semi-subterranean houses that were built using large Mammoth tusks to assemble the walls, and Reindeer antlers covered with animal skins to construct a roof; these well built, rigid and highly innovative structures would protect the inhabitants from the harsh elements of the Siberian weather. Much of what we now know about Mal’ta comes from a Russian Archaeologist named Mikhail Gerasimov who is widely known in the Anthropological community primarily for his contributions to a process called forensic sculpture; Gerasimov first achieved fame for his excavation of Mal’ta in 1927. Gerasimov’s Mal'ta discoveries were highly revolutionary for the field of Anthropology. Until his findings Scientists could not imagine that the Upper Paleolithic societies of Northern and Central Asia were capable of the same level of culture as those of Europe. Over the course of his career Gerasimov visited Mal’ta on two other seperate occasions for further in depth excavation and research, each time his findings, were just as remarkable.
The evidence seems to indicate that Mal'ta is one of the most ancient site in Eastern Siberia, however relative dating illustrates a number of interesting yet confounding irregularities. The use of flint flaking and the absence of pressure flaking used in the manufacture of tools, as well as the continued use of earlier forms of tools seems to indicate that the site belongs to the early Upper Paleolithic. Yet, at the same time the site lacks typical Skreblos, (large side scrapers) which are common in other Siberian Paleolithic sites. Additionally, other characteristic commonalities such as pebble cores, wedge-shaped cores, burins, and composite tools have never been found. The lack of these features, combined with a rather individual art style found in only one other nearby site, makes Mal’ta culture unique in Siberia let alone elsewhere. There were two main types of Artistic expression during the Upper Paleolithic: Mural Cave Art, (which was mainly concentrated in Western Europe), and Portable Art. Portable Art, which is typically some type of carving such as in ivory tusk or antler, spans Western Europe into Northern and Central Asia across the Steppe. There are Artistic remains, which have been expertly carved in bone, ivory, and antler whose objects depict figurines of Birds and human females, which are the most commonly found sculptures; it is these sculptures, which are the primary source of Mal’ta’s worldwide acclaim.
One of the best examples of Paleolithic Portable Art is usually referred to as “Venus figurines”. Until they were also discovered in Mal’ta, “Venus figurines” were only previously found within Europe. Most of these female figurines are carved from the ivory tusk of a Mammoth, whose sculptural representations are highly stylized, which often involved embellished and disproportionate characteristics (typically the breasts or buttocks of the females). It is widely believed that the emphasis of these female physical features were meant to be symbols of fertility. Around thirty female statuettes of varying body shapes have been found in Mal’ta. The wide variety of body forms, combined with the superb realism of the sculptures, and the lack of repetitiveness in detail are clear signs of developed, albeit early, Art.
At first glance what is obvious is that the Mal’ta Venus figurines are of two distinct types: full figured voluptuous women with exaggerated sensual forms, and women with a thin, petite and delicate form. Some of the figures are depicted nude, while others have intricate etchings, which appear to indicate fur or clothing. Conversely, unlike those found in Europe, some of the Venus figurines from Mal’ta have been sculpted with faces. Most of the figurines were tapered at the bottom into points, and it is believed that this was done so that they could have been planted into the ground or otherwise placed upright in some other way. Placed upright they could have symbolized the spirits of the dead, akin to "Spirit Dolls," which are used world-wide by various cultures, including Siberia whose Shamans often to speak of having Spirit Wives.
The only widely known Upper Paleolithic Art from Asia are these figurines from Mal'ta. Although other examples of Paleolithic Asian Art do exist, few of it has gained much attention outside of Asia. The reason why these attract so much interest is that they appear to be nearly identical to European female figurines of roughly the same time period. The suggested similarity between Mal'ta and Upper Paleolithic civilizations of Western and Eastern Europe coincides with a long-held belief that the ancient people of Mal'ta were related to the Paleolithic societies of Europe. These similarities can be established by their tools, dwelling structures, and Art. These commonalities draw into question the origin of Upper Paleolithic Siberian people, and whether the migrating peoples originated from South Eastern Asia or quite possibly from Europe. However, there may have been an extensive trade route, which once connected Europe with the hinterland of Siberia and that the influencing factor was the other way around.
One can also argue the point that the Mal'ta statuettes are a distinctive group since they are rather different from the female figurines, which have been discovered in Western and Central Europe. For example, none of the Siberian specimens indicates abdominal enlargement, which many of the European examples do. Few of the Venus figures offer clear enough evidence of gender in order to define them as being definitely female since their breasts are often lacking. More conclusively, nearly half of the figurines show some indication of facial details, something which is entirely lacking on the so-called Venus figures of Europe. A definitive answer in regards to the origins of these peoples and their culture may never be reached by looking at their Art alone; that isn't to say that the peoples of Mal'ta made innovations of their own to go beyond the original influence or that their work is in fact that of the original source.
As well as female statuettes one also has a number of Bird sculptures, which depict Swans, Geese, and Ducks. Through ethnographic analogy, by comparing the ivory artefacts and burials at Mal'ta with sacred objects, which are also used by 19th and 20th century Siberian Shamans up to the present day; it has been suggested that these statuettes are clear evidence of a fully developed Shamanism, which may have been the original province of the Female.
There are also engraved representations upon slabs of Mammoth tusk such as a clearly discernable figure of a Mammoth, easily recognizable of form by the trunk, tusks, and thick legs, which probably indicates a deification of the Mammoth. The Wool of the Mammoth's fur also seems to be etched, by the placement of straight lines along the body of the engraved Mammoth. Another carving has three Snakes appearing on it. The three Snakes have their heads puffed up and turned to the side. It is believed by some that they are similar to Cobras, which may indicate the Three Nerve Channels running up along ones Spinal Column should one have a take of a more Esoteric perspective on the matter. What is intriguing is that there are traditional stories, which continue to live among the Siberian Natives that are still being passed on by the elders and storytellers to the younger generations. In one of these traditional stories told by a Dolgan elder in the Khatanga area mentions clearly woolly Mammoths, which once roamed the land; there is no doubt that there are more of such stories mentioning the woolly Mammoths, which once roamed the Tundra of Siberia to be passed on from generation to generation among Native Siberians. Khatanga is a small city in Northern Siberia and the fossil remains of woolly Mammoths in the Khatanga area have been carbon dated to be 20,000 years old. The woolly Mammoth was a creature, which roamed around North America and Asia from 250,000 to 10,000 years ago. A separate group of the last surviving woolly Mammoths had survived till about 3800 years ago on Wrangel Island, whuch is a division between the land masses of America and Russia; the inhabitants of Wrangel Island are Native Inuit Turkic people who have lived the longest alongside woolly Mammoths. The closest living relatives of the woolly Mammoths are Indian Elephants. Along with woolly Mammoths, the smaller in size and just as shabby, Mastodons roamed around North America. Mastodon excavation sites are located mainly in the regions below the Arctic Circle while woolly Mammoth sites are located in both within the Arctic Circle and below it. Likewise many Mastodon excavation sites predate those of the woolly Mammoth and Mastodon shared sites for millions of years. Turkic people in Asia and the Inuit people in Siberia, Alaska, Arctic Canada and Greenland have sacred artefacts made from woolly Mammoth ivory. The Native people in the US-Canadian Sub Arctic and West Coast often carve Mammoth and Mastodon ivory. The word Mammoth is derived from the Saami (Turkic Scandinavian Reindeer herders also known as Lapps) word 'Maamut,' which means from the Earth. All Turkic Nations in the Arctic came to believe that woolly Mammoths are creatures whose spirits live under the Earth's surface.
One can find the woolly Mammoth being instrumental in creating the Earth along with a Serpent as discovered at the Mal’ta site in an ancient Siberian origin myth: “The world was originally very small - covered in water with not enough land to pasture Reindeer. People complained to the Mammoth - Heli. The Mammoth wandered about in the water and found the Serpent - Dzhabdar. She persuaded her to help dry the world to make more land. The Mammoth plunged her tusks into the bottom of the water and brought up clay, sand, stones, these became cliffs, mountains. The Serpent wriggled behind making rivers. Then trees grew. But the trees and cliffs grew so high they could support the sky. They argued who would get there first. Seveki - God of the Upper World (Heaven) heard them and knocked down the cliffs and seized the trees so they withered and died. Since then cliffs have crumbled and trees withered and died.” It is interesting to note that a large proportion of ancient forests, which once thrived in Siberia to Alaska have been found under a deep layer of frozen muck. The forests did not decay, they were frozen solid along with other animals such as the woolly Mammoth's, which were suddenly caught out by a catastrophe. The ancient Siberian myth, which speaks of Seveki appears to allude to a catastrophic event that led to the demise of the forests as well as the wooly Mammoth. The Mammoth is also the Creator Mother of the Dolgan peoples of Siberia, where she walked, rivers formed, where she lay down, a lake was left. Finally she left for the Underworld with all her children. One can gauge from the ancient Siberian myths that the woolly Mammoth and the Serpent are primarily associated with the feminine principle and that the woolly Mammoth resides under the Earth at its core. In the Shamanistic lore of Siberia reality is divided into three planes of existence; for example, the Evenk peoples of Siberia see the universe as having three different worlds, linked by a River, which runs into the sea of the Underworld; the entrance to which is guarded by Kalir who was half Elk, half fish whom stood at the back of ones Head. (Kalir is not unlike the ancient Norse goddess Hel, who was simultaneously half alive and half dead. The name of Hel was later transformed by the Christian’s into an abode for the damned, but originally it was the realm of ones Ancestors. The name of Hel appears to be quite ancient since it is also the Siberian name of the woolly Mammoth Goddess Heli. When one Dreams ones consciousness naturally shifts towards the back of ones Head. The trick is to do this consciously so that one can attain a Lucid Dream or to do so via induced Trance.) The Middle World, 'Dulin Buga' or 'Dunne,' was where people live. The River, Engdekit, flowers from the morning Tyman-Itki in the East and the direction to go to the Upper world, is towards the West, the Evening and Night Dolbon-Itki and the entrance to the Lower World is guarded by Kalir, half Elk half fish. To get there the Shaman goes through a (Inner Stargate/Portal) hole, this is what you see in ‘front’ of you sometimes, when ones Heart opens up (central as in Central-Nervous-System ‘Heart’ Scotoma) the Shaman brought this state on deliberately by frenziedly singing, howling and dancing in order to bring on a Trance state so that the hole will open up before him; it is through this inner Stargate that the Shaman's spirit is able to fly over the Earth as a Bird, which one can equate with an Out-Of-Body-Experience. Apart from Shamans only the dead went to Bukit in the West, the Land of the Dead on the way to the Lower world, Khergu Buga in the North. Here the spirits of the dead were welcomed by the mistress of the dead and lived in Iron yurts. Here also were the Kkhargi, half Human half animal, the tribal totems. While the Middle World was lit by the Sun, Dylacha, the Lower World of ghosts was lit only dimly by a half-Sun. The Upper World, Ugu Buga was linked to Middle Earth by the river Engdekit, which goes through a whirlpool whereby it ascends through a hole atop of ones Head. The spirit of the Shaman can attain egress out of the body via a hole atop his head in order to visit Uga Buga. It was in Ugu Buga that the Souls (Omi) of the deceased were stored to be recycled (people had more than one Soul) to be reborn again. Above it were the worlds of the heavenly beings. There is Evelen, the Elk, the Plough constellation. There is the world of Ulgar, the Pleiades or Sieve. There is the Moon, Bega and Cholbon, the planet Venus, the morning and evening star, overall is the far South where one has Main, the creator deity. It was the Shaman who could freely access these other realities. The name Shaman (or Chaman or Haman) is an Evenk word although others say it is Tungus, which is now an Anthropological term. Shaman means "frenzied one". Our words charm, enchant, chant, etc. are from the same origin. Women Shamans were primarily called "Utagen" which means "Hearth (or Fire) Woman" wherein one sees an association with the Hindu/Tantric concept of the Kundalini Shakti Fire Snake and indicates the original importance and probably original separate functions of the Women Shamans since there are many names for a Male Shaman. The Woman Shaman was usually seen to be more powerful than a man. This was not a profession one chooses, it chose you and each clan needed a Shaman as the Shaman protected his people from harmful spirits and other influences. The Shamanistic perception of three levels of reality permeates magical thought, which in the Siberian practice of Shamanism is equated with the three Snakes found at Mal’ta, which are in turn associated with the Serpent Goddess Dzhabdar who makes 'rivers' whom is somewhat akin to the Hindu/Tantric Yogic experience of the Kundalini Shakti Fire Snake. The experience of the Kundalini Shakti Fire Snake ascending the Three Nerve Channels of ones spine is often described as being akin to a liquid Fire hence one has ones river. The Siberian Underworld of the Mammoth Mother is very much tied up with the later Western fixation upon ‘Hollow Earth’ theory, which has its foundation in the Tibetan myth of Agartha. The myth of Agartha is in turn based upon an ancient Shamanistic perception since Tibetan Buddhism is very much influenced by Bon-Po Shamanism whose origins emanate from Siberia.
Agartha (sometimes Agartta, Agharti, Agarta or Agarttha) is a legendary city, which is said to reside in the Earth's core. It is related to the long held belief in a Hollow Earth, which has infatuated many of those whom follow the New-Age movement as well as being a popular subject in Esotericism. Agartha is one of the most common names cited for the society of underground dwellers, which is associated with Underworld of the Shamans. Shamballa (also known as Shambalah or Shangri-La) is sometimes said to be its capital city, which is in fact associated with the Middle-world of the ancient Shamans. While once a popular concept, in the last century little serious attention has been paid to these conjectures and the theory is not supported by Modern science due to the fact that those who search for these places are looking in the wrong place; they are internal domains, but this does not mean that they are not real. Ferdynand Antoni Ossendowski's 1920 book Beasts, Men, and Gods discusses Agartha. The myth of "Agartha" is also known as "Shambhala", as it was known in India, the underworld realm peopled by initiates and led by "the Masters", who are the Spiritual leaders of humanity. One could otherwise perceive these Masters as the Shamans of ones Ancestors if one desires it so although they may well turn out to manifest as Mistresses within ones Electron Dreams made Lucid of awareness. According to Alexandre Saint-Yves d'Alveydre (1842-1909) of France, the secret world of "Agartha" and all of its wisdom and wealth "will be accessible for all mankind, when Christianity lives up to the commandments which were once drafted by Moses and Jesus," meaning "When the Anarchy which exists in our world is replaced by the Synarchy." Saint-Yves gives a "lively" description of "Agartha" in this book as if it were a place which really exists, situated in the Himalayas in Tibet. Saint-Yves' version of the history of "Agartha" is based upon "revealed" information, which was received by Saint-Yves himself through "attunement;" in other words 'Channelling.' However, the Tibetan’s themselves perceive Agartha and Shambalah as being farther North than the Himalayas, which points towards Siberia whose natives were systematically persecuted by Christian European's along with their Islamic fundamentalist kin whereby they would not be very pleased with Saint-Yves Judaeo-Christian revelations. The myth of Shambhala figures prominently in Vajrayana Buddhism and Tibetan Kalachakra teachings and revived in the West by Blavatsky and Theosophical Society, which in turn forged Hollow Earth theory. The Kalachakra system was said to have been communicated from Shambalah of far Northern clime. As with many concepts in Vajrayana Buddhism, the idea of Shambhala is said to have an "Outer," and "Inner," and "Secret" meaning. The outer meaning understands Shambhala to exist as a physical place, although only individuals with the appropriate Karma (Open Heart Scotoma) can reach it and experience it as such. There are various ideas about where this society is located, but it is often placed in central Asia, North of Tibet. The inner and secret meanings refer to more subtle understandings of what Shambhala represents, and are generally passed on orally. Alice Bailey transformed it into a kind of extradimensional or spiritual reality. The Roerich’s see its existence as both Spiritual and Physical. As for the Spiritual one has Shamanism while the Physical is Siberia.
A most interesting panel of ivory found at the Mal’ta site as mentioned briefly before, dated to 26,000 BP, was retrieved from a Siberian cave burial; the panel is described below by the author Geoffrey Ashe: "On one side of it, three Snakes establish its place in the Goddess network. On the other side is a design composed of lines of dots. They curve around to form seven spirals, six little ones framing a seventh that is much larger. In the large spiral the line goes around seven times, circling inward to a hole in the center. This is the first instance anywhere in the world of something destined to emerge far and wide as very strong magic indeed -- the peculiar mystique of the number seven."
"Since the spiral on the Mal’ta panel is a simple one, its role as prototype is very much a conjecture and may seem farfetched. But archaeology does not in fact offer a prototype anywhere else, and an argument in favour arises from the developed spiral’s most surprising appearance - among the Hopi of Arizona, who call it the Mother Earth symbol. In their eyes it represents a road of life that, if followed, leads to rebirth through the eternal Mother." - Geoffrey Ashe, The Ancient Wisdom. The science of Genetics has determined that the Native American’s first came from Siberia amidst the Lake Baikal area to the Altai (Altay) region of Siberia where one also finds the Mal’ta site. The Native American's share the same genetic cradle of locale with the North-Chinese, Mongolian's and the Eurasian people's, which also also includes the Basque and the ancient Briton's such as the Welsh, Irish and Scottish who originally stemmed from Siberia. What is quite interesting is that the Hopi of Arizona have a legend, which communicates that their ancient ancestors originally lived under the Earth that one could consider to be Agartha: “A long time ago the people were living below. There were a great many of them, but they were often quarreling with one another. Some of them were very much depraved. They abused the women and the maidens, and that led to very many contentions. So the chiefs, who were worried and angry over this, had a council and concluded that they would try to find another place to live. So they first sent out a bird named Mótsni, to find a place of exit from this world. He flew up high but was too weak and returned without having been successful. They then sent the Mocking-bird (Yáhpa). He was strong and flew up very high and found a place of exit. Returning, he reported this to the chiefs. In the meanwhile the chiefs had caused a great flood. Many Bálölölkongwuus came out of the ground with the water, and a great portion of the people were destroyed. When the Mocking-bird had made his report to the chiefs the latter said: "All right, that is good. We are going away from here.” In regards to the Great Flood, which is communicated by the Hopi legend one has a Great Flood, which hit the Altai (Altay) region of Siberia from whence the Native American's had first stemmed along with other peoples of similar genetic bloodline: “14000 BP. Deep in the Altai Mountains of Southern Siberia, about this date, a wall of water 1,500 feet high surged down the ChujaRiver Valley at 90 miles per hour. How does one deduce such a hydrological cataclysm? A. Rudoy, a Geologist at Tomsky State Pedagogical Institute, points to giant gravel bars along the ChujaRiverValley. These are not the inch-sized ripples we see on the floors of today’s rivers; these are giants measuring tens of yards from crest to crest. Only a catastrophic flood could have piled up these ridges of debris. Rudoy postulates that, during the Ice Ages, a huge Ice Dam upstream held back a lake 3,000 feet deep, containing 200 cubic metres of water. When the Ice Dam suddenly ruptured, all life and land downstream was devastated. (folger, tim, “The Biggest Flood”, Discover, 15:36, January 1994.) But other thoughts intrude: were the heaps of Mammoth Carcasses, the Siberian “IvoryIslands;” and those anomalous Stone tools mentioned earlier under Archaeology the consequences of similar Siberian Floods?” (Science Frontiers #92, March-April 1994. William R Corliss.) The book "King of the World" by Rene Guenon also contains a description of Agartha. An early source for the belief in an underground civilizations is The Smoky God (1908) by Willis George Emerson (1856 - 1918), which claims to be the biography of a Norwegian sailor named Olaf Jansen; the book claims that Jansen's sloop sailed through an entrance to the Earth's interior at the North Pole. According to the author, he spent two years living with the inhabitants of an underground network of colonies who, Emerson writes, were a full 12 feet tall and whose world was lit by a "smoky" central Sun. Emerson claimed that their capital city was the original Garden of Eden. While Emerson does not use the name Agartha, later works such as Agartha - Secrets of the Subterranean Cities have identified the civilization Jansen claimed to encounter with Agartha, and its citizens as Agarthan.
The idea of the Hollow Earth is also used by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan, in a series of novels beginning with "At the Earth's Core" (1914). Using a mechanical drill, his heroes discover a prehistoric world 500 miles below the surface. Lit by an inner Sun, this inner Earth is called "Pellucidar" of perpetual day due to the constant light of the un-setting inner Sun. There is also an inner Moon which creates a "Land of the Dreadful Shadow" by blocking the light of the inner Sun for a portion of Pellucidar. Burroughs also makes use of the idea of openings at the poles, and has Zeppelins travelling into the interior of the Earth via these openings. Where Burroughs saw Zeppelins others now see UFO’s and underground bases populated by Nazis, Alien Greys and Reptilians of a neo-Gnostic Christian Hell without a Mammoth in sight since they have completely forgotten their Ancestors whom once lived alongside the woolly Mammoth. POSSIBLE NEW HUMAN ANCESTOR FOUND IN SIBERIAEvidence of a previously unknown species of human, which lived alongside our ancestors 40,000 years ago has been uncovered in Siberia. The creature, dubbed "X-Woman" by scientists, may have been one of at least three kinds of human alive at the time; what she actually looked like is still as yet unknown, but scientists believe she was closer to modern humans than the stout and muscular Neanderthals. She could have lived as recently as 30,000 years ago and appears only distantly related to modern humans or Neanderthals, the researchers reported. "It really just looked like something we had never seen before," Johannes Krause of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, told a telephone briefing. "It was a sequence that looked something like humans but really quite different." Writing in Nature, Krause and colleagues said they sequenced DNA from the Mitochondria, a part of the cell, which is passed down virtually intact from a woman to her children. They compared it to DNA from humans, Neanderthals and apes. The sequence indicates the Hominin's line diverged about a million years ago from the line that gave rise to both humans and Neanderthals and that split about 500,000 years ago. That makes her younger than Homo erectus, the pre-human, which spread out of Africa to much of the world about 1.9 million years ago. Experts already know that early Homo sapiens and Neanderthals co-existed in Northern Asia and Europe for 15,000 years. The new evidence, based on DNA from a piece of finger bone found in a cave, indicates that a third species might also have been present. "It is some new creature, which has not been on our radar screen so far," said Svaante Paabo, a colleague of Krause's who specializes in analyzing ancient DNA. And it would have lived near to both modern humans and Neanderthals. "There were at least three ... different forms of humans in this area 40,000 years ago," Paabo said. Krause and Paabo are careful not to name Woman X as a new species just yet. They are now working to sequence nuclear DNA; the DNA that makes up most of the genetic code, which will tell a great deal more about "Woman X". Surviving in a harsh Ice-Age period, "X-Woman" would have hunted animals and clothed herself with furs and skins to protect against the cold. The new find is unusual because it is based entirely on molecular evidence from DNA. It suggests the appearance of a completely new lineage of humans that emigrated out of Africa around one million years ago; that or the new human lineage had evolved independently in Siberia. Paabo and Krause said it is theoretically possible she is related to another potential third species of human, Homo Floresiensis, nicknamed the "Hobbit," which lived on an island in modern-day Indonesia about 17,000 years ago. The team has tried without success to get DNA from Hobbit bones. Most skeletons of pre-humans have been found in warm places such as Africa, but hot, wet conditions break down DNA. The scientists, led by Dr Johannes Krause from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, discovered the genetic material was nothing like that of either early modern humans or Neanderthals. Dr Krause said: "It really looked like something that I'd never seen before. It was a sequence that was similar in some way to (modern) humans, but still quite distinct." Ever since it was given serious lab cred in 1949 by the great logician Kurt Godel, many eminent physicists have argued against Time Travel because it undermines ideas of cause and effect to create paradoxes: a Time Traveller could go back to kill his grandfather so that he is never born in the first place. But the existence of Parallel Worlds offers a way around these troublesome paradoxes, according to David Deutsch of Oxford University, a highly respected proponent of Quantum theory, the deeply mathematical, successful and baffling theory of the Atomic world. Commenting in New Scientist magazine, Prof Andy Albrecht, a physicist at the University of California, Davis, said of the link between probability and Many Worlds: “This work will go down as one of the most important developments in the history of science.” ALL IS AS AN ILLUSION, ALL BE MAYA: Quantum mechanics describes the strange things that happen in the subatomic world - such as the way Photons and Electrons behave both as particles and waves. By one interpretation, nothing at the subatomic scale can really be said to exist until it is observed. Until then, particles occupy nebulous “superposition” states, in which they can have simultaneous “up” and “down” spins, or appear to be in different places at the same time. OBSERVER CREATED UNIVERSE OBSERVING IN REFLECTION: According to quantum mechanics, unobserved particles are described by “wave functions” representing a set of multiple “probable” states. When an observer makes a measurement, the particle then settles down into one of these multiple options. But the Many Worlds idea offers an alternative view. Dr Deutsch showed mathematically that the bush-like branching structure created by the universe splitting into parallel versions of itself can explain the probabilistic nature of Quantum outcomes. This work was attacked but it has now had rigorous confirmation by David Wallace and Simon Saunders, also at Oxford. PARADIGM SHIFT SUBTLE BUT PROFOUND: Dr Saunders, who presented the work with Wallace at the Many Worlds at 50 conference at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada, told New Scientist: “We’ve cleared up the obscurities and come up with a pretty clear verdict that Everett works. It’s a dramatic turnaround and it means that people now have to discuss Everett seriously.” MANY AN ALTERNATE PROBABILLITY, MANY A WORLD: Dr Deutsch added that the work addresses a three-century-old problem with the idea of probability itself, described by one philosopher, Prof David Papineau, as a scandal. “We didn’t really know what probability means,” said Dr Deutsch.
